I’m just not losing weight.
I don’t feel like I’m getting results.
I’m lifting weights but my muscles aren’t getting lean.
Before you throw your hands up in despair let’s talk about a little thing called, nutrition.
When it comes to weight loss the biggest struggle is staying on point with what you eat.
The food we put into our bodies can make or break our results.
We can spend time in the gym, but if we aren’t focused on putting good food into our bodies we aren’t going to see the best results.
Don’t get me wrong, you’ll see results but the way to see the BEST possible results is to eat right.
All too often we see our nutrition as a means to an end.
We say things like…
I just need to eat healthy until I go on my vacation,
I just want to eat well enough to lose ten more pounds,
I just want to fit into that dress for my friend’s wedding.
When in reality nutrition should be something we adopt as part of our lifestyle.
Great so now we know it’s nutrition that’s not getting us the results we want, now what?
Instead of focusing on nutrition as a means to an end what if we looked at food in a different way?
What if we looked at eating good food as a habit we have to practice?
What if it didn’t matter how much weight you lost this week or next if all you focused on was the habit of eating good food full of the nutrients your body needs?
Oh and working out of course.
Would you feel relieved?
Would it make it simple?
If you answered yes, then read on…
So how do you start this habit?
Stop saying you’ll start over on Monday
It doesn’t matter what you ate last week, yesterday or for breakfast this morning.
If you want to change the way you view your food start now!
As in the next meal or snack you plan to eat. The first part of developing a habit is to start putting that habit into action. You’ll be surprised to see how fast one good action will turn into another and another…
Before you know it you’re craving healthier food. You’re enjoying the way it makes you feel inside and out.
Don’t do fad diets
If not eating carbs, completely cutting out fat or any other fad diet worked we’d all be at the weight we want to be. Yet somehow after these fad diets we gain any weight we lost and then some.
They’re NOT realistic.
You can’t live without carbs for the rest of your life. You need fat in your diet to survive. You are going to [gasp] enjoy a dessert every once in awhile.
Fad diets don’t do anything but set you up to fail.
You aren’t actually taught how to eat. They are used as a means to an end (see above).
Don’t overcomplicate it
We have a tendency to overcomplicate losing weight and going to the gym. We build it up to be this crazy thing in our heads.
If we don’t do everything perfectly, we give up.
If we overeat a little, we get down on ourselves.
If we miss our workout, we beat ourselves up.
It doesn’t have to be complicated.
It doesn’t have to be all or nothing.
Nothing in life is. So why would we expect our exercise and nutrition to be?
So where do you go from here?
You start eating clean, non-processed foods.
You focus on eating well and working out.
You stop trying to be perfect.
You make the best decisions you can in your nutrition.
You exercise and stay active throughout the day.
Then you do the same thing tomorrow and the next day and the next day and well you get the story.
Getting into the habit of eating clean and non-processed food will take practice and you will make mistakes.
Have grace with yourself and keep going.
You can do this.
And we want to help you!
