It’s a thing.
Think about those women who are ALWAYS motivated.
You the know the ones I’m talking about.
The women that never have a bad day.
They are always eating healthy, working out and staying on track.
It is enough to drive a sane woman crazy.
I know you’ve seen them too. They are everywhere.
Those women who never miss a workout, even when they’re sick and have to bring a box of tissues to the gym.
Those women who always seem to fit their veggies into their day even if that means they are chomping on carrots in the pick up line at their kid’s school.
Thank goodness they didn’t see me in the car next to them slumping down in the driver’s seat munching on my Chik-fil-a sandwich, that I most certainly didn’t get grilled.
I wonder what their secret is as I wipe the Chik-fil-a sauce from my mouth.
How do they always find the motivation to do this?
Day in and day out.
Clearly, they must have some secret special dose of motivation and will power that you and I just didn’t get.
They must have just ran out when they got to me. I feel like I showed up and they just shook their heads and threw up their hands and said, “Yep we just ran out but don’t worry you’ll be fine.”
Do you want to know the secret?
The real honest-to-goodness secret to those other women’s motivation.
Well, for starters I’m going to be real with you.
The # 1 secret to their motivation is their perseverance.
Okay, before I lose you. I know you were hoping that it would be something you’d never heard of before. Trust me, I was right there with you.
Maybe it would be something in the form of a pill I could take first thing in the morning or maybe I could take it before bed so I would wake up and motivation would just come coursing through my body.
I wish those were real options, but they’re not.
Give me a minute, and I’ll share something with you.
Have you ever had a bad day with your nutrition?
Or maybe you forgot to go to the gym for a whole week? I mean, did they move it or something?
Or you were doing so well and then BAM you haven’t been able to stay on track for what feels like forever.
You might wonder what’s wrong with you.
I have actually thought this exact same thing.
I am here to tell you,
There is nothing wrong with you at all.
No one is actually motivated about eating healthy and working out every single day. It’s just not possible. Even the most fit person has a day or two where they would rather hit the snooze button, pull the covers over their head and go back to a blissful sleep.
The difference is the majority of the time they fight this with their perseverance.
The #1 secret to their motivation is perseverance.
On the outside it looks like really motivated women are just naturally motivated all the time, but if we really sat down and had a nice little chat you’d actually find out that they too have had times where they lacked motivation. But instead of getting down on themselves or giving up they persevered through the rough patch.
Motivation is something that is developed over a period of time. It’s not something we are born with, but something we learn to become. We must consistently try our best to stay motivated.
We’re not going to be struck with a sense of endless motivation one day, but I bet you’ve had that feeling before. That feeling where you are struck with so much self-awareness it makes you feel like you can take on the world.
I’ve had this feeling and it’s what initially got me started working out, eating healthier and just taking better care of myself. Then after awhile that feeling starts to fade. I can feel my resolve decreasing with each passing day.
This is the secret.
Right here is what you need to know.
Instead of feeling like there is something wrong with me I put it out of my head. I push that negativity away…
I go to my workout anyway, even if I have to drag myself there.
I eat my veggies even though I already had a cookie.
I do these things because I know if I persevere and push myself it will keep me moving forward and really at the end of the day that’s all we really want. We want, no we need, to move forward. Even if it’s small steps. Even if it means the scale is stuck for a month. We need to keep moving forward even if it’s just in our mind.
The feeling of motivation will peek its head back in. It will appear when I least expect it, but it isn’t always a mainstay. Something I always thought it was.
I thought if I wasn’t always feeling it. If I wasn’t always 100% motivated there was something wrong with me.
Something I wasn’t doing right.
But the truth is that we have to persevere. We have to push ourselves, not just on the days we aren’t motivated but in spite of those days.
