You know you need to change.
You can feel it.
You want to feel vibrant and youthful.
You want to live a full and healthy life.
But the problem isn’t that you lack the drive or ambition. It’s not even that you don’t have motivation or will power.
The problem is you have no idea where to start.
It’s the feel of failure or that little voice in your head that keeps telling you that you’re in too deep and you’ll never be able to start living a healthy lifestyle. It feels so far out of your reach that even thinking of making a change puts you in a cold sweat.
The hardest part is taking that first step.
It’s stepping out of your comfort zone.
It’s trying something new.
It’s learning about yourself and making changes that have the power to change not just your body, but your entire life.
So how do you take that first step? How do you even begin to make a change when it feels like you can do anything but?
Follow Delta Life Fitness’ 10 ways to take that first step to change your lifestyle.
We make it super easy for you to try one of these TODAY, as in right now, to help you take that dreaded “first” step into making lasting changes. I know it can seem overwhelming and even a tad scary. It’s hard to be confident when you’re feeling uncomfortable, but I promise you that being uncomfortable is part of the process.
So let’s get started.
Not in an hour. Not tomorrow. Not on Monday.
Putting something off only makes its presence more powerful. Trust me, doing something now can give you such an empowered feeling.
It can be something like walking around the block or making a better choice at your next meal. It doesn’t have to be earth shattering, but when you start now you have less of a chance for your brain to talk you out of starting.
Don’t overthink it.
If you’re anything like me then you overthink things to death.
You have a million questions and you want them all answered now.
Don’t think about it, it will only make it worse. The best part is you can totally do this right now. You can stop overthinking your weight loss and simply make one change now.
Let go of worry
Sometimes, it can be too easy to get caught up in the game of “what if”.
What if I can’t lose weight?
What if I can’t workout everyday?
What if I overdo it at my kid’s birthday party?
We sometimes worry so far into the future that we feel paralyzed to take action.
Let me tell you first hand that worrying about living a healthy lifestyle or making changes to help you lose weight will do nothing to help you achieve it. So practice letting go of worry today so you aren’t paralyzed to take action.
Move beyond the past
Why does it seem so much easier to stay stuck in the past than it is to move on into the future? It is easy to look back on what you looked like or what you did years ago, but you and I both know that isn’t going to get you where you want to be.
So today, I want you to move beyond your past and, yes, yesterday counts as the past. It doesn’t matter what you did or what you ate or whether you worked out or not. Today is a new day and you CAN make a change today.
If we let our past dictate where we are today, then we will never move forward.
Move forward every day
Any action is good action.
If you are taking action every day, no matter how small, it means you are moving in the right direction. We live in a society that wants to lose all the weight as fast as possible.
Think of all those times you tried a fad diet only to gain back the weight. You were mystified. How did this happen? How did you get here again? It’s because fad diets aren’t made for a change in lifestyle they were made to get you to lose weight by whatever means necessary.
Chose to move forward now by doing something, anything, that will get you closer to where you want to be. It could be parking farther away or making your next meal healthier.
Research proves that when you visualize what you want you are more likely to actually obtain it. Visualizing is nothing more than you thinking about your goals and how you’re going to obtain them.
Sometimes we get lost in focusing on just the end result. When you visualize you should think about the steps that are going to get you to that end result. Visualizing your day to day goals is just as important as your big final goal. It will make your ultimate goal manageable.
Think about someone who inspires you everyday.
I’m sure you can think of that one person in your life who automatically comes to mind when you think “healthy lifestyle” or made big changes in their life. There are so many amazing individuals around us everyday.
Reach out to someone you look up to and ask them to help hold you accountable. Let them know you’re trying to make changes, and you’re seeking them out because they have inspired you with what they do everyday.
Alright, so you’re not where you want to be in your life. You don’t feel youthful or vibrant. You used to be in shape and can’t believe you’ve let yourself go. You can keep beating yourself up about it, but that won’t change anything.
Instead, focus on how you can turn your struggle into something positive. You now know where you don’t want to be.
You’ve realized that you don’t want to live an unhealthy life any longer. You want to change. Those are positive and motivating things. It may seem like you have a long way to go, but you can and will do it.
I bet you’re a great person regardless of what the scale tells you. I am willing to bet you have a family that loves you and children who look up to you. You are amazing at your job or you’re a great friend or creative and adventurous.
There is so much more to you than what the scale says. Taking the first step towards a healthier life and losing weight will only work if you accept you for you.
You have to LOVE yourself.
Because what happens when you lose the weight? What happens when you get to your goal if you don’t like you? Most women don’t like to have extra weight on their bodies, but despite that you should be able to look in the mirror every morning and tell yourself that you are great and loved.
Own your journey
How often do you look at another woman and compare yourself to her and what she’s doing?
We’ve all done it.
It’s easy to look at another woman and compare what she has or what she’s done. Women get lost in the world of comparison. It does nothing but make us feel bad about ourselves. It does nothing positive; it actually steals our joy from our own success.
Repeat after me, everyone’s journey is different.
Repeat that until you believe it.
No two journeys are the same. You are on your own journey to have a healthy lifestyle, to lose weight and to be the best version of yourself. You have to accept that and own it. You have to believe you can do anything you put your mind to.
I believe you can.
