What thoughts come to mind when you think about the word fail?
If I were to take a stab in the dark,
I’d bet they’re not pleasant. In fact, they’re probably pretty bad.
We’ve been taught to believe that failing is bad. That it holds no importance in our lives. If you’re failing you must be doing something wrong.
How many times have you been scared to try something new because you were afraid of failing?
Have you often avoided tackling something because you might fail?
Failure is something we’ve been taught to avoid at all costs.
Because failure is painful…
…basically it’s downright scary.
The thing about failure is,
It’s a part of life.
It’s going to happen.
But even though failure is a part of life doesn’t mean we can’t be successful.
You can be more successful not despite your failures, but because of them.
First, remember it’s all about perspective.
There’s a reason they say, “perspective can change your life.”
If you see “failing” as a negative, it’s going to be a negative.
If you see “failing” as just another step in your journey, it’s going to lose that negative vibe. I might even venture so far as to say it could be seen as progress.
What if we did see “failing” as a part of our progress?
If you’re failing you’re progressing.
Failing isn’t failure…
…it’s you taking chances and making mistakes.
It’s you growing and becoming the best version of yourself you can be.
How often has your perspective seen your failings with numerous diets as your fault? Something that is wrong with you?
What if instead you looked at those diets and realized they were fad diets that weren’t realistic?
How would that change how you viewed yourself and your failures?
Would it help you gain better perspective on how you actually want to nourish your body?
Second, learn from your failures.
Congratulations, you failed!
Now is when the real work begins my friend.
You can learn from your mistakes, re-evaluate and re-do.
No one gets everything on the first try.
Trial and error is what make people into experts.
Learning what you don’t like,
what you don’t want to do,
or what you shouldn’t do will change your journey.
It’s completely okay to fail and realize,
“Hey, that didn’t help me.”
Then go out and find something that will.
Third, keep trying.
I’m to going to lie to you,
failing is tough.
It’s tough on the ego,
on the mind,
and on the heart.
No one said it’ll be easy, but you have to keep trying.
Keep trying every day.
That’s the difference between failing and progressing.
If you fail, pick yourself back up and keep going.
That my friend, is progression.
And when you do that you’ll become stronger and stronger everyday.
And before long you’ll be doing things you never thought possible.
