Losing weight is HARD.
It can at times feel like you are banging your head against a wall.
There just seems like there are so many things you have to change.
I know it feels overwhelming. It can be really, really frustrating because every where you turn someone is telling you what you should be doing to lose weight.
It’s enough to make a woman’s head explode!
So if your goal is to lose weight without losing your mind then you’ve come to the right place. It’s definitely doable with these four pointers from Delta Life Fitness.
STOP FOCUSING ON THE END
I know, I know. This is easier said than done.
Weight loss is a process and unfortunately it’s not something we can magically wave a wand at and be done with.
I’ll disclose that prior to coming to Delta Life I was a chronic yo-yo dieter. So I have been fine tuned in the art of losing weight. I’d lose 25 -30 pounds and then those pesky pounds would find me again. How did they know where I was?
Well, I wasn’t exactly the most patient person you’ve ever met when it comes to weight loss. So I would white knuckle my through it until I was at my goal weight and then I would slowly regain weight because I was only focused on the end result.
Here’s what I found made the difference.
Realizing that if I want to lose weight AND keep it off then I have to be focused less on the end and more on my day to day habits.
When we focus on
LOVE YOUR BODY FOR IT CAN DO…NOW!
Your body is amazing as it is NOW.
Are you doing things you haven’t done before?
Are you getting stronger?
We get so bogged down with how our bodies look we forget what our bodies can do.
I know it’s shocking.
We were created to do amazing things.
We can swing kettlebells. We can lift weights. We can walk, jog, sprint, jump and get stronger everyday. We can reverse our weight gain by our own hand.
Our situation is only temporary.
How amazing is that?
You may have gained some weight, but you are able to lose that weight and more if you please.
You can! The weight you gained at some point in your life is not a death sentence. It’s something you can change. It’s hard, but is able to be done.
So while you’re losing weight remember to love your body for what it can do at every stage.
Love it when you’ve lost 1 pound or 70 pounds. Love it when you start lifting that 10-pound kettlebell and love it when you are able to swing that sucker around at 35 pounds.
Appreciate your body for what it does for you at every weight you are. You’ll be able to better appreciate your body at your goal because you know where you started.
ENJOY WHERE YOU ARE
Sure you want to look better in a bathing suit. But should the fact that you’re not where you want to be take away from the joy of life now?
I’ll say it again just in case you missed it.
A thousand times, NO.
So you have fifty pounds to lose and you’ve only lost 15.
I get it you so don’t want to put on your bathing suit. Your clothes still aren’t fitting the way you want them to. You’re still struggling because you feel like you still have such a long way to go.
And yet, how did we completely gloss over the fact that you, YES YOU, lost 15 pounds! You did that and even though your clothes still don’t feel quite right I know they’re getting looser and soon they’ll be too big.
But we don’t focus on that part do we?
Nope, it barely registers with us. We still aren’t where we want to be so we disregard the great things we’ve done and our accomplishments.
You are so uber-focused on your end goal sometimes you forget to enjoy the fact that your pants are sliding up your thighs without struggle or the dress that was hiding in the back of the closet is now flattering.
You should always take time to enjoy where you are here and now in our weight loss journey because we don’t’ enjoy it while we’re going through it we can’t properly enjoy it when we reach our goal.
“I’ll do that when I get to my goal weight.”
“I’ll wear that when I lose more weight.”
Part of the weight loss journey is loving your life.
How are you going to love your life if you are constantly waiting to enjoy it? You’re not doing anything but missing out on so many great and wonderful things.
Do you want to know the truth? The complete and honest truth?
You can still enjoy things at the weight you are NOW.
I said it, and I’m glad I did. Your weight loss journey is just that a “journey”. It may take time, but that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t be enjoying yourself everyday. This is part of what makes women crazy when losing weight. They feel they have to wait for everything.
Think back to when you’ve tried to lose weight before and how difficult it is to power through when you know you have months and months to go? I know from personal experience that you can only hold on and power through for so long before you fall.
You have to enjoy your life everyday. Holding out waiting for the stars to align until I reached the perfect size 6 I dreamt of in my head only led me to have more unrealistic expectations and ultimately I couldn’t live up to them. Causing me to regain weight because I felt like it was taking forever to “get there” so I kept giving up.
And another thing, what are you telling yourself when you wait?
You’re telling yourself that you’re still good enough. You’re still not enough even for you.
I’m here to tell you that you are enough. In this moment, you’re not only enough but you are MORE than enough. You have to stop putting yourself in the corner because waiting…
Until you look a certain way will keep you stuck in a negative mindset. A mindset that truth be told has followed many of us around for much too long. A mindset that we truly need to break up with and delete its number.
You can lose weight without the headache. Is it going to be easy? No. But I promise it will be worth it. Follow these pointers and enjoy yourself as the weight comes off. I know it completely flies in the face of everything we as women have learned about weight loss, but trust me it works.
