Welcome to the second installment of The Strong and Empowered Women’s Series.
Delta Life Fitness had the unique opportunity to sit down with an amazing member from Delta Life – Midcounty Texas. Ashley Thomason has been a member of Delta Life for almost a year (Happy Almost Deltaversary) and she has had tremendous success. She has gone from 303 pounds to 181 pounds through hard work and dedication. She is an inspiration to other Delta Life members and to all women who have struggled to get on the right track with their weight loss.
Can you tell us a little bit about yourself?
My name is Ashley. I am 30 years old. I grew up in Texas, in an area called Port Neches. I work as a paramedic. I’m married, and my husband is a police officer. I work out at Delta Life Fitness! That’s pretty much it.
Tell us about your weight loss journey.
Late one night, I was surfing the internet and came across a Facebook advertisement for Delta Life Fitness. The next day, I spent several hours doing my own research into the Delta Life Fitness Program. At this time, I was at my heaviest, and I struggled to find nice clothes that were comfortable. More importantly, I wanted to wear clothes that were stylish. I was constantly tired and my health had definitely degraded due to poor eating habits, no exercise and a generally poor lifestyle. In short, I was miserable. After researching Delta Life, I decided that participating in their program for 14 days could not be any worse than what was already happening.
I began my journey with Delta Life Fitness on February 16, 2015. Initially, I signed up for the 14 day Fat Furnace, and I lost 18 pounds! I was amazed and more than anything I felt motivated. I realized I could change everything with this program. After participating in a few more short challenges, I signed up as a full member and have been hooked ever since.
I have followed everything Delta Life Fitness says to the “T”. I have followed their workout, nutrition and lifestyle program exactly and because of that I have been able to lose weight. I have lost 122 pounds since coming to Delta Life! I have gone from 303 pounds to 181 pounds. That’s right, 12 pants sizes!
Prior to coming to Delta Life Fitness had you always struggled with your weight?
My weight has always been a struggle. I was very active in high school. When I was in high school I was on the drill team and this helped me stay active. As an adult I became less active. My job as a paramedic has me sitting in an ambulance all day long. This means I am not able to move around as much as I want to.
I also struggled because I have had numerous surgeries on my leg. I had a stress fracture in my femur and this affected my ability to work out.
What have you tried in the past to lose weight?
I have tried everything. I have tried Weight Watchers, Adkins and Nutrisystem. I have also tried Slimfast, Body by Vi and even asked my doctor for prescribed weight loss pills. None of these things worked for me. I would lose weight, but then I would gain it all right back again.
They didn’t work because they were just fillers. They didn’t include foods that were actually healthy. The programs had no structure to them. They only focused on one part of how to lose weight. I wasn’t doing workouts that my body needed.
What specifically about Delta Life Fitness empowered you to make your transformation?
The Delta Life coaches. They truly care about you and your success in the program. I like that I have the ability to constantly communicate with my coach. I am constantly emailing back and forth with my coach. My coach emails back and gives me advice and answers. She holds me accountable. My coach knows the results I want to achieve, and she knows giving up is not an option. My coach motivates without judgement and continually pushs me to reach the goals I have set for myself. I love that my coach is always checking up on me and offer any help they can.
The women of Delta Life are on this journey with me! When one member meets or exceeds their goals we all celebrate with her. Every member is positive and helps to motivate other members. There is no sink or swim mentality here.
The meal plans Delta Life gives us are easy to follow, and I know if I follow them I will be successful. I’m not going to fail. It’s all about disciplining yourself on your eating habits. I also think the women’s-only aspect was a huge motivator. It was also empowering to be able to work out despite being injured. I was able to modify nearly every exercise movement.
I also learned that sleep is super important. It has helped me lose weight. It can be difficult for me to get a lot of sleep because of my job as a paramedic. Some nights I only get 4 hours of sleep because of work.
What motivated you to start losing weight?
I was tired of not fitting in clothes. I was tired of barely being able to fit into the clothes I already owned. I couldn’t find any clothes that were cute or sexy in the plus size section. I was becoming like the people I pick up as a paramedic. I had to stop. It was time to change. The best part is that because of my weight loss I no longer have to buy expensive plus size clothing!
What tips would you give to other women who are thinking about joining Delta Life Fitness or have recently joined?
The other key to all of this amazing lifestyle is nutrition. Without proper nutrition the human body does not get the most out of the exercise. Delta Life provides a wonderful knowledge base for learning proper nutrition. Like so many others, I was never properly taught to eat growing up. It all compounded into a horrible situation that I did not know how to fix. The meal plans provided with the membership have shown me how to eat, when to eat, and thus my body is able to make the most of the exercise and get the results I want.
Don’t give up, it’s worth the pain!
I know that sounds cheesy, but it will get you results.
What would you say to other women who don’t believe they could transform their life like you did?
My first tip would be to get those thoughts out of your head. You have to change your mindset. You have to think “I can do this”. You have to want this. I did this when I joined the 14 Day Fat Furnace. The first week was hard, but week by week I became stronger. It sucks at first, but talk to your coach and they will help you every step of the way.
When I first joined Delta Life Fitness, I spent my first few months extremely sore following my work outs. But over time, it became less tiresome to complete the workouts. In the beginning, I modified every movement. As I lost weight and became stronger I moved on to completing them without modifications. I continued to burn fat, gain strength and muscle size.
Has Delta Life made you stronger?
It has made me stronger both mentality and physically. Physically, I am able to lift weight I wasn’t able to do before. I started with a 10 lb kettlebell, and now I’m transitioning to a 40 lb kettlebell. I started with a 10 lb dumbbell, and now I work with 15/20 lb dumbbells.
Mentality, Delta Life Fitness have given me my confidence back! My confidence is through the roof! I used to have no self-esteem. I have gained my health and my happiness back. I am strong.

Josh Cherry, the CEO of Delta Life Fitness, has done an amazing job on this program. He’s changed my life. I honestly cannot thank the coaches of Delta Life – Mid County enough for what they have done in helping me change my life. I look forward to continuing my journey with Delta Life Fitness.
